One of the most difficult things to do when you start a new business is putting together a budget. Without any financial history on which to base income and expenses, it may seem like guesswork, but as part of any business plan a tentative budget can be established with some thought and anticipation for the future.

In most businesses there are two main categories, income and expense. Under your expense category there can be several sub-categories often falling into two main areas of controllable expenses and uncontrollable. While many business owner claim they can control every expense involved in their business, they are simply kidding themselves as some things such as utility cost, the amount of rent and other so-called fixed costs can, and do change, with the owner having no control.

Other expenses such as payroll, insurance and advertising can be subject to a budget, but they are considered controllable expenses. If the business begins to fall off, you can control some of these expenses by laying off employees and cutting back on advertising. However, living by a budget will help maintain profitability in many respects but can also turn against you in the long run.

Depending on the viability of your business it often is a better investment to bite the financial bullet on employee wages and still provide good customer service to the remaining customers until business picks back up. By trying to everything yourself not only will you burn out quickly, but is no one is taking care of the customers, it will not take long until there are no more customers to care for.

There are two ways to budget your business money and that is through set dollar amounts and percentage of income. Many businesses will budget their controllable expenses by the dollar and non-controllable by percentage of income. For example, a company earning $20,000 a month in income has budgeted six percent for payroll, providing $1,200 for payroll. If the income level rises to $50,000 the budgeted payroll percent does not change but the dollars available for payroll climbs to $3,000. With an obvious increase in business to create the additional income, the owner will probably need the extra help to take care of business.

There are many other expenses that fall into the payroll account such as worker’s compensation charges, Social Security tax paid by the employer and paid vacation time or other perks determined by the employer. While a budget may be difficult to establish for a new business, it is a necessary evil for all business owners.

We all use carpet spot removers to get rid of those tough stains. It is important that we use the correct product to remove those stains. Here are some things to watch out for.

Select a cleaning product that no one in your family has any allergies to. All cleaning products list the ingredients. Be mind full of younger children. When selecting a cleaning product ensure it is one that disinfects. You want to kill any bacteria so it will not grow and cause health issues. It is important to read the product label. It will tell you if it disinfects.

Not all products should be used for the same situation. Resolve carpet cleaner does work great for regular spills but does not always do a good job on pet urine. For specific spots like urine you should use a cleaner that is designed for cleaning urine.
Be-sure to follow the directions for using the product. Do not vary from the directions. If it says spray once do not spray it five or six times. When using any cleaning product be sure the area is properly ventilated. Open up a window if you need to. Do not have children or pets in the room when using cleaning products. Birds are easily affected by chemicals so if you own a bird place it temporarily in another room.

Unfortunately, it's an old cliché that is often left at the door. The next time you're headed to an event, keep in mind the following simple, helpful rule: after it's all said and done, you want to have earned the right, privilege, honor, and respect to be able to meet with them again. This is not a license to sell yourself, but an opportunity to build a relationship.

- When you arrive at a networking event, avoid gravitating to people you know. You should initially thank the host and then immediately find someone new to introduce yourself to. This will help keep you in the right frame of mind as to why you came.

- Stop selling and start listening! When you meet someone for the first time, use it as an opportunity to get to know them. Don't try to sell them anything. Rather, begin to establish a relationship.

- After you meet someone for the first time, use the back of their business card to jot a note about something you learned from the conversation and the date and place you met them. Recording the information will give you something to talk to them about the next time you see them.

- Connect with the person you're talking to by tilting your head as you listen to them. It is an effective body language technique which communicates that you're paying attention to what they're saying.

- When a person is talking to you, be sure to look directly at them. Giving a person full attention with your eyes will encourage them to share more.

- When giving someone eye contact, remember it's not a "stare-down" contest. Give the person 3 – 5 seconds of eye contact and then look away briefly before returning your focus to them again.

- The best location to network is by a high-traffic area such as a main door, the bar, or near the food.

- Never approach someone if they are walking towards the restroom or if they have a phone in their hand. Wait until they have returned to the networking area or put their phone away.

- After the person has shared something with you, ask them another question about what they just said. This shows that you're paying attention and that you care about what they're telling you.

- Always keep one hand free to allow yourself to shake hands with people. This means that you shouldn't eat and drink at the same time. Remember, you're there to network, not eat a full-course meal.

- As a way of demonstrating your networking skills, introduce each new person you meet to at least one other person.

China's Trade Surplus May Hit US$130b

China's trade surplus may hit a new high of between 120 billion and 130 billion U.S. dollars in 2006, Bi Jingquan, the deputy head of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has estimated.

Bi was quoted by Monday's China Securities Journal as saying the huge trade surplus is a direct result of the fiscal and tax policies.

China should improve its policies concerning tax rebates for exports and processing trade, Bi said at an international symposium on the reform of China's public fiscal policy held in Beijing at the weekend.

According to figures from the General Administration of Customs, China had a record trade surplus of 101.8 billion dollars in 2005, the twelfth consecutive year in which China posted a trade surplus.

The huge trade surplus has led to increased trade disputes between China and its main trade partners and vociferous calls for the appreciation of the Chinese yuan.

A new surplus high in 2006 will bring even greater challenges to the exchange rate of the yuan, the report said.

expand. But current employees aren't available to assume additional
responsibilities.

5.
You determine that your employee's existing job skills and knowledge are
fine for your company's current level of productivity, but to expand, you'll
need either increased skills and knowledge or a new and different set of skills
and knowledge.

6.
Revenue is at or above target and you project it to continue; other than
financially rewarding yourself and/or your employees, you wonder what to do with
the increased revenue.

Just How Much Golf Can A Person Play?

I have an uncle who lives in Vero Beach, Florida, who retired a couple of years ago. He has always been a man with an overabundance of energy and managed to raise 5 kids during a time when being in business for yourself was far less common than it is today. Now that he's retired, he spends his days playing golf, landscaping his yard, taking his grandchildren to amusement parks and traveling across country with my aunt. Yet, he's still anxious about not working.

Recently, during several different phone conversations, he asked this rhetorical question: "just how much golf can a person play?" I realized after hearing this for the 4th time that it was more than just his being easily bored. He is questioning his purpose. He feels as if he has outlived his usefulness and it's driving him crazy.

I've been thinking about this a whole lot lately. Not merely because he's my favorite uncle, but also because there are lots and lots of people in the same boat: what to do now that retirement has arrived.

It is my firm belief that the so-called "senior citizens" of this country are underestimated in their ability to offer valuable experience to the still-working population. The youth of today do not seem to appreciate what their grandparents and others of their generation have to offer. And, in my humble opinion, it's a dang shame!

Take a moment to consider all the many things that these folks could do to fulfill their sense of purpose. What they did during their working lives is not necessarily the only experience they have to offer. They've LIVED for all that time and the culmination of those years of living can be an incredibly useful resource to the rest of us. They are living encyclopedias!

Among the many ways these citizens can contribute are volunteering in the community. The United Way, Boys and Girls Clubs, local shelters, the Humane Society, even their local elementary, middle and high schools. There are countless organizations that could use and appreciate their help.

And then there's the internet. There are thousands of web-based businesses available that not only provide a stellar income, but also a means to utilize the skills they've developed over the years. In fact, more and more retired folks are finding meaning and value in such enterprises, giving them a reason to get up in the morning and rewarding them for their experience.

So, if you are among the many retired (or soon-to-be) folks who're questioning life after work, OR if you know someone in this circumstance, why not offer suggestions. They're trying to tell us something when they grumble. Are you listening?

Dry ice blasting is a process used for cleaning the equipment in many industries. There are several technical aspects and three major factor which allow the whole process to take part. In this article we will exemplify and try to explain each of them.

The first factor of which dry ice blasting depends on is the pellet kinetic energy.
